Invoices
What types of businesses use an invoice as correspondence?
All businesses use one type of invoice or another. An invoice, simply put, is a bill. A company uses an invoice as a means of providing the client with the necessary information for paying for goods or services that were ordered or delivered. An invoice will typically include terms and guidelines for the products or services provided, as well as the total due and how to remit payment. Since businesses stay in business by selling products or services, it is nearly guaranteed that all businesses, including yours, will have need of invoices.
Can I customize my invoice design?
To an extent, you can customize the design of your invoice. While there are some straight forward fields and options that should be on all invoices, you can customize the layout of your invoice. Your customization can be as simple as choosing a landscape layout rather than the standard portrait layout. Or perhaps you would prefer carbonless copies (for reference, carbonless copies are the copies that are yellow, and then pink). Of course, if you prefer the standard carbon copies, then you can choose that too!
What about paper stock? Can I use special types for an invoice?
Unfortunately, if you want the type of invoice that gives you a copy of the actual sheet, you'll find that you are somewhat limited for the types of paper you can use for an invoice. The top sheet of an invoice is the main copy, usually the copy that the company retains, though in some instances the company allows the customer to keep it. In either case, the top sheet can come with a variety of styles and background colors. The copies of an invoice, however, are pretty straight forward, as they must be of certain types of paper to allow the pressure from the writing instrument on the front page of the invoice to come through on them.
What information should be included on my invoice?
An invoice will come ready to have basic information, including a description of the product or services sold, order total and names and address forms, written on it. You will need to tailor your invoice to include some basic information about your company, including your company name and contact details, and perhaps a job title or slogan. From there, you can add on to customize your invoice to your liking. Some invoices will feature specific options and fields pertaining to the company or job at hand. Others may have special fields for signatures or pre-stamped information.
